Funkhaus is proud to welcome GoGo Penguin for the second in a new series of intimate Jazz concerts which will take place our Saal 1.

We are excited to welcome Manchester-based trio GoGo Penguin, featuring pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka, and drummer Rob Turner, are known for their hypnotic melodies, instinctive bass lines, and unmistakable rhythm. Their music is described as acoustic electronica, but they are also influenced by rock, jazz, minimalism, game soundtracks, and glitchy-electronica, creating their own unique sound through this mix.

Their music hits the heart, head and feet and not without reason was their album v2.0 (Gondwana Records) nominated for albums by Damon Albarn, Young Fathers and Jungle for the Mercury Award in the category 'Album of the Year 2014'. In 2015 they signed with the legendary label Blue Note Records and released the 2016 album "Man Made Object". In addition to worldwide concerts on their albums, they also have their self-composed soundtrack to Godfrey Rggio's cult film, Koyaanisqatsi 'u.a. listed in the sold out Hamburg Elbphilharmonie.

Their new album 'A Humdrum Star' will be released on February 9, 2018 via Blue Note Records / Universal Music.

"The members stayed locked in their grooves, three young men making music with jazz instruments, rock dynamics and circumscribed dance music strategies." New York Times

"Jazz dances with minimalism in the hadron collier of GoGo Penguin." The Guardian
